Joie's Trip to Florida
October-November 2008

Our first stop on the way to Florida--
the beautiful and historic Beaufort, South Carolina.
Here we are at Beaufort Harbor.

Mom and Dad just love to take
pictures of me anywhere they can...

Here's a close-up of the butterfly in the previous picture.
I see a bee sneaked in on this one.

Hey Dad!!!  Where are my toys!!!!

Here we are relaxing under one of the many Spanish moss-laden Live Oak trees.  I've included pictures of some of the homes in this National Landmark District.

OK, enough of this historic stuff.  Now, back to Me!!!!

How do you like my new friends!!!  Hahaha......

And here I am swimming with the birds and playing with my frisbee.  Mom and Dad didn't forget to pack it!!!

Devastating Beauty!!  I can't believe
they made a sign just for me!!!!!

This is the Hunting Island lighthouse, originally constructed in 1859 and rebuilt in 1875 after being destroyed during the Civil War.  It was deactivated in 1933 and is currently the only lighthouse in SC open to the public.

If you look very hard you can see in the
front of my left foot my shell collection!
Very impressive, don't you think?

And even though I was on vacation,
I always started my day by reading the newspaper.
Have to keep my paw on the pulse!!!

And here we are on beautiful Sanibel Island...

Soft white sand, expansive beach, coconut palms, lush tropical foliage, beautiful crystal blue water, and some of the best shelling you'll ever find.  Enjoy 15 miles of unspoiled beaches, 22 miles of bike paths, 50 types of fish, 230 types of birds, 250 types of shells and 0 stop lights.  That's Sanibel Island.  A barrier island just off the southwest coast of Florida by Fort Myers, Sanibel Island is about 12 miles long and 4 miles wide.  While Sanibel Island is a wildlife refuge in and of itself, over 60% of the island is  actually protected wildlife preserves.

Results of Mom's shelling....

J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge
The refuge is part of the largest undeveloped mangrove ecosystem in the US and is world famous for its spectacular migratory bird populations.

Yep!!  Here I am playing with my frisbee in the Gulf of Mexico.  Gotta have my frisbee...  Thanks Mom and Dad.

Now this was a day I chose to stay in the room.  Was I smart or what!!!  Look at the size of that alligator!!!  Glad Mom was careful!!!

  The end of the day.....

We leave for home tomorrow....

Here I am in the mountains of North Georgia.  I sure got tired staying in my crate from Sanibel Island to Macon, GA and then from Macon to Asheville. This was one of  my few breaks. It was made good only because they promised me my dinner if I posed well. (That's why I am licking my mouth in anticipation.)

End of the day, almost the end of my trip, and the end of my blog.  I had a great time.  Mom and Dad always make sure we stay somewhere where I can play in the water because it's my most funnest thing to do.  I hope you've enjoyed my journey as much as I've enjoyed bringing it to you.  I'm already looking forward to my next adventure.  Stay tuned......

Joie, signing off........
