December 2008

Hi Grandma Lisa,

I thought you might like some photos of what I do all day in Texas.  Today was special because I went to sit on Santa's lap at PetSmart.  That place is great - have you been there?  It smells awesome.  And people stop your parents and tell them how gorgeous you are.  Unbelievable!!  The picture there didn't turn out too good though.

First I check out the birds...

Then I track down the squirrels...

After I have spotted one I sneak around . . .

And then I try to catch one!

After that, it's all I can do to stay awake ... Oh wait!!! I don't stay awake!  I have three beds and I can sleep anywhere I choose, as long as it's not on the furniture!

  Your friend,
Mia, the Ham

In November 2008, Mia went to her "forever home" in Dallas, TX.  Her new Mom and Dad are Jack and Carol Spruiell.  Here's my first note from Mia, along with some pictures:

  Mom Lisa . . .

Things are pretty doggone good here in Texas.  It didn't take long for me to learn to say "Ya'll" and feel right at home.  It feels like I've always been here.  I have a huge back yard and I am waiting . . . just waiting ... for a squirrel or rabbit to dare to come into it.  I get to go for lots of walks to the park down the street, too.  They also take me in the car and shopping and such.  This week we shopped for Cowboy Boots - boy did THAT store smell wonderful!  I didn't get any, tho. :-(

I look at the pictures of my puppies on the internet but I don't miss them because I keep all my cuddly toys in bed with me.  My mom is working on "Heel" and I've made a lot of progress on "Sit".  She's also working on "Fetch"; I just don't get the concept.  She says I'm quite a lady because I know not to bolt out of the house or car or do silly things.  Thanks, she says.

The best place is in a lap and that's where I end up at night.  My college mom will be home soon and I can't wait to meet her.  I know she really really loves dogs.

Here are a few pictures.  More later as I have more adventures.  These people are real nice and treat me pretty much like a princess.

PS:  By the way, since I finished my Championship at such a young age, I am now working on my lap dog trials.  I am doing really good, as you can see from all my photos.  My college mom worked on the Christmas tree and I helped her!!!  :-)

Mia is now Champion Ashwind's La Tea Da!!!  At just over two years of age, Mia won her championship title after going Winners Bitch>Best of Winners at the Old Dominion Kennel Club show in Timonium MD on April 23, 2005 (day two of the three-day 2005 Cherry Blossom Cluster shows).  And the icing on the cake was that my daughter, Taylor, who has just advanced to Open Junior class, handled her beautifully to Judge Mrs. Marsha Hall Brown for the 3-point major.  Thanks, Matt, for letting Mia come to live at Winfree and congratulations on your first home-bred Ashwind's champion.

On a beautiful, sunny, April day in Fredericksburg, VA at the Greater Fredericksburg Kennel Club show, Mia went Winners Bitch under Judge Mrs. Robert Smith.  This win added one point towards her CH title, giving her a total of 12 points. We're looking for that 3-point major!!!!  The show was held outdoors on April 9, 2005 at the Fredericksburg Agricultural Fairgrounds in Fredericksburg, VA.

The day was March 23, 2005, the second day of the seven-day Spring Tarheel Circuit in Raleigh, NC.  The judge was James Burns.  And Mia went Winners Bitch>Best of Winners>Best of Opposite Sex for one point.  The sponsoring club was the Carolina Kennel Club.  Total is now 11 points, including one 4-point major.  Thanks to all.

Mia has her first major!!!!  And it's a 4-point major!!!  On October 22, 2004, at the Middleburg Kennel Club show in Leesburg, VA, Judge Dorothy Macdonald gave Mia Winners Bitch and Best of Winners for the major.  Mia was beautifully shown by my friend, Tina Craig.  Thanks Tina and thanks Judge Macdonald.  Mia now has a total of 10 points. (See picture below.)

It was Sunday, August 15, 2004 and Hurricane Charley had just lost his punch, but not Mia.  Under Breeder Judge Jesse Pheiffer, Jr., Mia went Winners Bitch for one point at the Annapolis Kennel Club show in Arnold, MD.  This gives Mia a total of six points.

Mia went Best of Winners on Sunday, July 11, 2004 at the Shawnee Kennel Club show in Berryville, VA.  This two-point win was awarded her by Judge Stephen Hurt.

What a weekend for our Mia at the Jamestown, VA shows!!!!!  On Friday, May 21, 2004, under Judge Paula Hartinger, Mia went Best of Breed at the Gloucester Kennel Club of VA show earning one point.  Then, at the Virginia Beach Kennel Club show on Sunday, May 23rd, Mia went Best of Breed AGAIN!!!, this time under Judge Karolynne McAteer, picking up yet another point!!  Two points that weekend!!!  We are so proud of her!!

Mia has her first point!!!  At the Chesapeake Dog Fanciers Association show on Saturday, April 24, 2004, Mia won the Open Class under Judge Jon Cole.  We're very excited!!!  Keep watching Mia and she aims for her championship.

"Mia" was an unexpected addition to Winfree.  We saw pictures of her when she was just 8 weeks old and fell in love with this little blue roan and tan girl.

We got to see Mia for the first time at the Beckley, West Va. shows in April 2003.  Matt Proctor brought the litter down for all of us to see.  Matt was kind enough to let Mia come and live at Winfree.

Mia will start her show career in 2004 ....... waiting her turn to hit the ring

Mia's Best of Winners win at the Middleburg Kennel Club show in Leesburg, VA.  Judge Dorothy Macdonald; Handler Tina Craig.  Thanks to both.
