Back to "Dogs in Retirement"

Winfree's Boxhill Bucaneer
(Winfree's Patrick x Winfree's Lucky Charm Lucy)

Today was one of the saddest days ever.  I had to say goodbye to our old Pete....

We thought that it was going to be goodbye on Valentine's Day, but he rallied and hung on for a wonderful two weeks.

Pete never finished his Championship.  He needed one last major to do so, and we teased him that when he finished I would find him a forever home...so he never felt the need to do so.  :-)

He was our puppy trainer...teaching every puppy about personal space and his imaginary bubble.  I don't know who will take over that job.  Pete was a very important part of the Winfree breeding program.

Though Petie only sired a few litters, he has left a beautiful legacy to carry on the Winfree name.  Pete is the sire of Ch. Winfree's Chasin' the Blues "Chase", who was Winners Dog at the ECSCA Regional Specialty; and Winfree Tuson's Finer Things "China", Petie's orange and white daughter.  His grandchildren coming down from China include  Ch. Winfree's Dixie Chick, who was Winners Bitch at American Spaniel Club.  Dixie is the dam of multiple specialty-winning puppies herself, and is the dam of Ch. Telltale McMurphy Flyer.

Another daughter of China, Ch. Winfree's Puppet On A String "Puppet", was BOS in Sweepstakes at the Bryn Mawr supported entry in 2002.  Puppet's daughters--Ch. Winfree's Pullin Stings at Ashbrook and Ch. Winfree's No Strings Attached, and Ch. Winfree's Cindy Lou Who, will also be adding their contributions to Petie's legacy.  Petie is also the sire of Ch. Winfree's Wind Dancer.  Banner finished his championship by going Best of Winners at the Maryland Sporting Dog Specialty show in 2004.

He was the first dog that Taylor ever showed, and he trained her well.

We will miss him terribly.... Rest well old Pete...

September 2006

"Petie" is just a little over 10 years of age, has now been neutered, and is officially retired.  While he was the result of an accidental breeding (see below), he has been a very important part of the Winfree breeding program.  Though Petie only sired a few litters, he has left a beautiful legacy to carry on the Winfree name.

Pete is the sire of Ch. Winfree’s Chasin’ the Blues "Chase", who was Winners Dog at the ECSCA Regional Specialty; and Winfree Tuson’s Finer Things "China", Petie’s orange and white daughter.  His grandchildren coming down from China include Ch. Winfree’s Dixie Chick, who was Winners Bitch at American Spaniel Club.  Dixie is the dam of two specialty-winning puppies herself.  That would be Pete’s great grandkids!!

Another daughter of China, Ch. Winfree’s Puppet On A String "Puppet", was BOS in Sweepstakes at the Bryn Mawr supported entry in 2002.  Puppet’s daughters--Ch. Winfree’s Pullin Stings at Ashbrook and Ch. Winfree’s No Strings Attached--will also be adding their contributions to Petie’s legacy.

Petie is also the sire of Ch. Winfree’s Wind Dancer.  Banner finished his championship by going Best of Winners at the Maryland Sporting Dog Specialty show in 2004.

So, you are entitled to a well-deserved rest, old boy; enjoy your special time on the couch.  Your legacy will live on!

How Petie spends his retirement days!!!!

"Pete" was the product of an accidental breeding.  Both his sire and dam were owned by my doctor's office manager.  What a nice mistake!  Pete, to date, has all his singles, one major, and several Best of Breed wins.  He has sired three litters--two out of Tuson's Steppin Out in Style and one out of Ch. Ashbrook Famous Footsteps.

Pete's first litter produced a rainbow of color--two orange roans, one orange and white, one black and white, and a blue roan and tan.  We kept two puppies out of this litter.  The boy that we kept was Winners Dog at the 1999 Regional Specialty in South Carolina.  He is now known as Ch. Winfree's Chasin the Blues ("Chase").  Chase is co-owned and lives with Dyane Winn.  (Dyane also owned Am. Can. Ch. Winfree's Wildfire, a puppy out of my first litter.)  The bitch that we kept is known at Winfree's Tuson's Finer Things ("China").  China has several points toward her championship.
